About course

The online course “PID Tuning for FPV Drones” is dedicated to professional PID controller tuning and modern stabilization systems for FPV platforms. The course is built around a practical approach and real-world tuning methodologies used by FPV pilots and engineers in conditions of intensive drone operation. The program provides an understanding of PID behavior, filtering, Feedforward, RPM filters, Blackbox analysis, and the relationship between tuning parameters and the actual flight behavior of the drone.

The course is designed for FPV drone operators, UAV unit personnel, engineers, technicians, FPV system manufacturers, and freestyle, racing, and long-range pilots who already have basic experience working with Betaflight. After completing the course, students will gain practical skills in PID tuning, flight log analysis, and optimization of flight performance for different FPV platforms and operational scenarios.

The program covers PID component tuning, modern filtering systems, RPM filters, work with Betaflight Configurator and Blackbox, oscillation analysis, and practical tuning techniques for FPV drones of various types and configurations.

Course program


1.
PID Controller Fundamentals
The module provides a foundational understanding of PID controller logic and FPV drone stabilization systems. Students will learn how P, I, D, and Feedforward components interact, how the Error signal is formed, and how flight stabilization works in practice.

Betaflight PID Sliders
Students will learn how to work with the main Betaflight PID sliders and understand how they affect drone behavior. Special attention is given to tuning responsiveness, stability, and the FPV platform’s reaction to stick inputs.

Advanced PID Controller Settings
This module focuses on advanced PID Controller Settings for fine-tuning flight performance. Students will explore modern stabilization, compensation, and smoothing tools used to optimize FPV drone behavior.

Preparing a Drone for PID Tuning
In this module, students will learn how to properly prepare an FPV drone for PID tuning and Blackbox analysis. The program covers system parameters, protocols, logging, and configuration settings required for an effective tuning process.

Practical PID Tuning
A practical module focused on flight log analysis and real-world tuning workflows. Students will learn how to identify oscillations, eliminate unstable flight behavior, and optimize FPV drone settings for different platform types.

6.
Final Assessment
The final module includes knowledge assessment, analysis of common mistakes, and final certification based on the course results.

7.
Certificate
Upon successful completion of the course and final assessment, each student receives an official certificate issued by the training center. The certificate confirms that the student has acquired the theoretical knowledge required for the level of Junior FPV Drone Engineering Specialist.
